559 Cape Palliser Road, 2, Whangaimoana-Pirinoa, South Wairarapa
The Gothic style was usually used for 19thC New Zealand buildings with any pretensions but the builders of this grand farming homestead chose Classical Revival. Like the Government Buildings in Wellington it is wood masquerading as stone. The farmer who built it in 1876 was John Purvis Russell.
