Visitors may park outside the gates and walk in to view the exterior of this splendid house. Designed by William Gummer in moderne style and completed in 1916. It caused quite a stir by its size and modernistic approach. Tauroa was brought to public notice by a 1978 book by photographer, Robin Morrison, "Images of a House", published by Alistair Taylor.
