Whare Ra

Whare Ra is distinctive in the oeuvre of James Chapman-Taylor. Constructed between 1913 and 1916 it was his first concrete building and his largest commission. The reinforced walls are six inches thick. Its two levels provided a temple for the Hermetic Order of Golden Dawn sect on the lower floor with a residence above for the leader, Dr Robert Felkin, and his wife. Whare Ra is a Category One Historic Place.
