Plane Table Lookout

West Coast Plane spotters have a marvellous viewpoint of one of the Coast's two commercial airports here at the "Plane Table", signposted from Airport Drive

Really a river terrace, and an area that is gaining popularity for residential development, the lookout is often sunnier than other corners of town and strangely sheltered too, luckily for those using the runway.

Not just a great place for checking out aircraft, (mainly helicopters) from here Hokitika Town, the river, the Southern Alps and the famous West Coast sunsets take on a special light.

At the airport itself, one of the service buildings happens to be a small circular concrete dome with windows, a long lost blot on the New Zealand Architecture timeline.
