182 Wakefield Street, Te Aro, Wellington City

Green Parrot Restaurant and Mojo, Wakefield St

182 Wakefield was built in 1928 (architect J M Dawson). In 1987 Athfield architects fitted this corner building into modern Wellington by adding two floors and renovating the facade. More recently it has been converted into apartments by the Land Equity Group. A Wellington institution, the Green Parrot Restaurant has been in existence since 1926. If you want traditional fare and we mean traditional - this is where to eat. The Green Parrot is not noted for its service or its cuisine but it must do something right. Long favoured by politicians the Green Parrot is particularly associated with New Zealand party leader Winston Peters. On the corner of the building is the first roastery and Café of the Mojo enterprise, now widespread in Wellington and also present in Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin.
