15 Stout Street, Te Aro-Wellington Central, Wellington City
Well known as the symbolic home of the civil servants portrayed in Roger Hall's 'Gliding On', this steel framed building with reinforced concrete walls was built by Fletcher Construction in 1939 to the design of the Government Architect (J T Mair). It was refurbished in 1989 and again in 2014 when it became the home of hydra headed MBIE (Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment).
It now has a glazed internal atrium with the architects being Warren and Mahoney.
Gliding On based on Roger Hall's hit play Glide Time*" the first locally-made sitcom to become a bona-fide classic........satirised a paper-pushing working life familiar to many Kiwis."*
