The Queens Wharf Offices building, originally offices and a wool store, was designed by Frederick de Jersey Clere in a late English Classical style and built in 1896. Look for the oriel window on the south-east corner. Following the 1942 earthquake much of the building's external decoration, including 3 cupolas, was removed. It is now fully earthquake strengthened. In addition to the Academy Galleries, the building now houses sought after apartments as well as the Queens Wharf business centre. Next door is the non-identical twin to this building, known as the Harbour Board building but now a museum, also by de Jersey Clere.
