New Zealand's largest thermal power station initially had 4 conventional steam turbine units with a total output of 1,000 MW(e). Its condensers are cooled by Waikato river water. The boilers can be fired with either gas or coal. In addition there are also an open cycle gas turbine of 50 MW(e) and a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant with an output of 385 MW(e).
