Temuka and Temuka Homeware Shop

Temuka's main industry is the manufacture of ceramic wares from local clays. Ceramics manufacture dates back to the 1860’s with pottery manufacture commencing in the 1920’s. Initially known for producing electrical insulators, the Temuka factory was diverted during WWII to making ceramic supplies for the Indian Army. After the war they recommenced domestic pottery manufacture, with iconic designs pouring out through the 1970s and 1980s. The durability of Temuka Pottery is renowned. There is a factory shop for the individually hand-painted porcelain known as Temuka Homeware on Vine Street. It includes the 'Brix Cafe'.
