667A Hot Water Beach Road, Dalmeny Corner-Hot Water Beach, Thames-Coromandel
Hot water flowing to the surface through the sand provides a playground for all ages. Hot pools can be dug out of the sand at low tide near the rocks and in places where steam can be seen rising from the open sea at high tide. The right gear for the occasion will include something to dig with. Hot Water Beach is also known as a good surfing spot but is regarded as New Zealand's most treacherous beach, with a high rescue count in the summer when lifeguards and locals pull swimmers out of the surf.
