Cooks Beach is a popular family holiday spot with a 3km crescent of fine golden sand on a safe beach. It can be reached by ferry and and a 5min taxi ride from Whitianga or by road (SH 25). If you don't want a sea beach there is a picnic spot to the East at the Purangi River.
