The Rolling Juction Shelter is at the eastern end of the Wangapeka track and reached by road from Tapawera. (30 kilometres). The Wangapeka track takes 3 -5 days crossing to the West Coast. It was built after gold was discovered in the Wangapeka valley in 1859. The Wangapeka is a popular trout fishing river. Courthouse Flat 5km further up the valley (by road) is the centre for a number of interesting short walks.
