Higgins Heritage Park Wakefield

The Heritage Park Wakefield is home to the Pigeon Valley Steam Museum, Rover Car Club, Ray Win Collection, Nelson Vintage Engine & Machinery Club, and, the Historic Transport Museum Trust, Army Group Centre, has a wide range of machinery, exhibits and activities. Steam days are the first Sunday of the month and every Sunday in January.

As original inhabitants of the Heritage Park, the Pigeon Valley Steam Museum have invested many volunteer years in the complex and their own exhibits, two steam tractors with interesting histories, which take groups around the park, and a stationary boiler used to power a variety of old technologies and a steam sawmill.

The Historic Transport Museum hosts many vehicles of all descriptions and also has a museum for related displays.

At 'Make a Knife' you can forge your own blade and handle in a traditional blacksmith's shop and be treated to pizza for lunch (book first).

The Army Group Centre's Displays are about military history, specialising in second world war depictions involving allied and german memorabilia, with their big display held on the first Sunday in May. Meantime they attend and contributes to public events all over New Zealand as well as organising battle displays at Higgins Park.

At Skyline Logging visitors can see how enormous logs were hauled over difficult ground in the timber harvesting days. The forestry and logger enthusiasts have refurbished a steam powered Skyline logging winch as well as displaying vintage chainsaws, forestry and logging equipment. a strange competition called Chocker racing involving wire, tractors and logs is another attraction.
