188 Staples Street, Motueka, Tasman
This quiet reserve does not boast that it was the landing point for the first Pakeha Settlers of the Tasman Province (Region) This happened in 1842, and is remembered in a tiny plaque almost hidden in the scrub.
How they managed to land is not clear as this is all shallow tidal estuary, but there is more information further down Motueka Quay at the old Motueka Wharf.
It is also a nice place for a little walk from Staples street, or to access the longer sandspit walk go via harbour road and along the back of the golf course. The Taste Tasman Trailbriefly follows this path before heading back out to the main road.
