Rutherford Memorial

New Zealand's most famous scientific son Ernest Rutherford is commemorated here, thanks to his spending part of his childhood here. Displays at different levels of the monument effectively encapsulate his life story. An excellent 1972 film hosted at NZonScreen gives the full story.

Rutherford is buried in Westminster Abbey in London next door to Sir Issac Newton, there is another memorial to him at Havelock, and buildings named after him at Victoria University, and Manchester University.
