Warkworth Cement Works Ruin

The impressive ruin of Warkworth's old cement and lime works constitute one of New Zealand's important industrial archaeological sites. Nathaniel Wilson began manufacturing hydraulic lime in 1866 and in 1884 started producing Portland Cement. In 1903 180 men were employed on this site.
Heritage New Zealand have given the site a Category 1 listing.
The site can be viewed in daylight hours.
You can picnic on the grass and the flooded quarry makes an excellent swimming hole.
