41 Warren Street, Wanaka, Queenstown-Lakes
Chalmers Cottage is a 2018 Category 2 entry on the Heritage List, the 1870s cottage being a rare intact and original example of a settler cottages in a town which has rapidly become a rather flashy millionaire's playground.
Back when the town was named Pembroke, and the sections were first divided up for sale, Archibald Chalmers and his buisness partner John Kerin ran a butchery and slaughterhouse right here. When Chalmers took his own life in 1886, he left the cottage to a new partner, John Ironside. Ironside and his descendants retained ownership of the cottage until the 1940s. It now serves as a holiday home.
