193 Main Road, Waikouaiti, Other
One of New Zealand's most colourful early settlers put this village on the map. It has a lovely beach and a lagoon noted for its wildlife. Nearby are Matanaka historic farm buildings, and the beaches of Karitane.
The shops are in a strip on the State Highway, the old BNZ houses the Museum and the old Post Office is still in use too, as a gallery. There is a Mountfort Church down towards the beach along with the pub and rugby ground. NZPlaces discovered the cemetery, which is in line for a still breeze from the Southern Ocean, is about as cold as it is old.
