Kowai Archives

The records of much of North Canterbury are held by the Kowai Archives Society, located in the former Council building here at Balcairn. The Councils have changed names, and earthquakes have rendered the building unuseable but the society keeps going.

They have responsibility for the Cob Cottage at Chamberlain Park at Amberley and the displays within, and hold the records for all of the area covered by the former Kowai Council, bounded by the Ashley and Waipara Rivers.

When the museum side can be reopened NZPlaces will be sure to let you know. Meantime if you are passing NZPlaces would love a picture of this great little building.
