58 Alfred Street, Mayfield, Marlborough
Blenheim is blessed with an exceedingly handsome mid sized courthouse, which is obviously earthquake - stable as it has been standing strong since September 7, 1938. An architectural product of John Mair, Government architect, it is constructed from golden sandstone, and fronted by columns and wide steps facing Seymour Square. Whether this frontage was intended to resemble the grand columns and stairs of Blenhiem Palace in Oxfordshire, maybe only Mair could tell.
A 2006 refurbishment by the Building Intelligence Group has it scrubbed up and high functioning in the 21st Century.
A complement to the well-proportioned town, this courthouse is Heritage Listed.
