759 Marine Drive, Eastbourne, Days Bay, Lower Hutt City
Seeking to make himself known in the early 1970s, Ian Athfield produced some strikingly different houses which were a radical departure from existing designs. This example, sometimes known as the 'Logan house' for the original owners, borders on the road because of the restricted site. Tucked into the hill, it is surprisingly sheltered considering it is the closest building to 'Windy Point'
A real estate agent described it as such: "The Logan House at Windy Point is original. Offering accommodation over 7 levels, with each room owning a different view of the harbour, and straight across the road from the beach: it is recognised locally and in the architecture world as a landmark. Early Athfield - so many of his hallmarks are evident: rounded walls, slit windows, tile flooring, floor to ceiling glass. Built with 16,000 reclaimed bricks over a steel and concrete structure in the 1970s - it's a masterpiece."
