Cheviot

Yet another of NZPlaces preferred places for a classic Kiwi tearooms lunch. Where the highway slows to 50 and widens to allow for parking, the town climaxes in it's centre with nothing other than a good solid tearooms. Yes there is a pie, yes there is an Otago cheese roll, yes you may have your cheese and pineapple on wheatmeal or white. Don't stop there, take a pot of tea. Take in old Canterbury. Time slows in Cheviot while you pour from the stainless steel pot into the Crown Lynn cup.

If it is the weekend, stroll across the zebra crossing to chat with the salt of the earth country ladies of the community market selling knitted, crocheted and quilted handmade homewares. When you shake yourself awake and head back to the car it won't be hard to find but you might wonder why the golden holden or the zephyr has given way to something newer and why you have to leave the good old days behind and get back on the highway.
