2 Hall Street, Kaiaua, Hauraki
Even back in the day it was a good marketing plan to link a drink with a unique location – the humble fizzy lemon drink first made in 1907 was given that added something through its association with a Paeroa mineral spring, the original source of its carbonated water component.
The drink is now made with more ordinary water, with added minerals, and is now manufactured by a certain global drink company (we won’t mention its name), but Paeroa has retained its
direct association through the monumental L&P bottle statue that sits at the eastern end of the main street. The first version of this was a temporary one
erected in the middle of the main street in 1968, but it was too much of a traffic hazard – the current slightly smaller one (though still giant) replaced it in a different location in 1969.
