Te Mata Peak Road, Te Mata-Haumoana, Hastings
From this vantage point, enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding Heretaunga Plains and Hawke’s Bay region. The road climbs to the top of the 400m peak. There are also hiking and mountain biking tracks. According to Maori legend, Te Mata hillscape is a sleeping giant, with the hill being the body of Maori Chief, Te Mata O Rongokako. Te Mata Peak is a paragliding/ hang gliding site. (PG2, Intermediate)
