14 Mills Street, Runanga, Grey
The West Coast had an important place in the growth of the Labour movement. Runanga, a town built for workers at the State Coal Mines is proud of its Labour heritage. Like the Lancashire towns where many of its inhabitants came from, Runanga used to have a Co-op.
The Miner's Hall was built in 1908, has become an icon of unionism, and is now desperate for restoration.
