231 Doctors Point Road, Waitati, Dunedin City
This is where the Health Minister David Clarke broke his own lockdown rules by taking his family for a walk during the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is not far from his North Dunedin Electorate and Karitane, Cherry Farm and Seacliff, NZPlaces long associated with therapeutic health facilities. To get here one drives through the hippie town of Waitati.
The Doctors who were responsible for enshrining this beautiful beach in Reserve Status were from Dunedin and there were six or so who gave their beachfront sections to the 'Waitati Reserve Society' from 1940 onwards. The Society continues to care for the area.
If you are lucky you might see little blue penguins, or Doctor Clarke who is less employed than he was.
The railway line still tracks around the coast here, and the views can be stunning.
