76 Anzac Avenue, Dunedin Central, Janefield-Halfway Bush, Dunedin City
From small beginnings on the other side of town in 1992, this craft brewhouse has gone from strength to strength, (the business not the beer) and in 2016 opened a grand premises near Forsyth Barr Stadium. Though it passed from the founder and owner Richard Emerson, into the hands of brewery giant Lion in 2012, Emerson (sometimes called the godfather of craft beer in New Zealand) was kept on and the contract ensures brewing remains in Dunedin.
The Anzac Ave building was designed and built by Beca, with simple lines and from red brick, harking to Dunedin's earlier industrial heritage. It includes the 5000L brewery, cellar door, warehouse, offices, site tours, and a restaurant.
In 2017 the building was a finalist at the World Architecture Festival Awards.
