67 Stuart Street, Dunedin Central, Dunedin Central, Dunedin City
Dunedin has done a New York. Upcycled a solid and stylish former warehouse building to boutique hotel condition, and in an excellent location, right between the Railway Station and the Octagon.
When it was a working building, the 'John Chambers and son aka 'fitness centre building' (1910) was home to three floors of warehousing, and the ground floor had a tearooms.
Now it has a perfectlly proportioned variety of small suites, and a dining hall. A long running bicycle store on the ground floor is still there. The conversion won the owners a prestigious heritage award in 2019, for 'outstanding re-use'.
The neighbours include the Law Courts and the Law Courts Hotel.
