The Fletcher House - Historic Edwardian Villa

With many of New Zealand's commercial building being constructed by 'Fletchers', and many residential homes being built by the same firm, the name Fletcher has become synonymous with all that is construction to New Zealanders. The founding member of the Fletcher Dynasty was one Sir James Fletcher and the villa at this site the first home he built, for a Mr and Mrs Green in 1909, just after his arrival from Scotland. Fletcher Challenge purchased it in 1990 and the Otago Peninsula Trust have restored it to it's 1909 state as a mini museum. Check the website for opening hours.

In 2016 the Fletcher house became the "Harbourmaster's House" in the film "The Light between Oceans". A significant scene was shot in the dining room.
