67 The Runway, Wigram, Wigram Aerodrome-Middleton, Christchurch City

Wigram Skies

Christchurch City Community Halls

One of Christchurch's new village suburbs. Wigram Skies was well underway before the earthquakes, as it is a Ngai Tahu development begun in 1997 on the site of the former Wigram Airforce Base. The main road is called the runway, and it was the runway.

The shopping centre is called the Landing, and the school will be constructed by 2019, it is designed by Architectus, built by Southbase, and to be called Wigram School, and see the closure of Sockburn Primary School to the north.

Ngai Tahu here describe the Maori and Pakeha history of the suburb which is still named for Christchurch Mayor Sir Henry Wigram who first started an airport and flying school here in 1916.
