What is now called Zebrano but was once called Santa Barbara was designed by an architect whose specialty was the design of motion picture theatres. Francis Willis was a Christchurch architect who had studied architecture at Cambridge. He built Santa Barbara as a house in 1936 and was also responsible for Spanish Mission New Regent Street.
