Ilam Gardens

The historic Ilam homestead, which featured in the film Heavenly Creatures, now houses Canterbury University’s staff club. The gardens on the banks of the Avon River are known for their outstanding collection of rhododendrons and azaleas which are at their peak in late October and early November. September is also a good time to visit when magnolias and camellias are flowering.
