94 Harakeke Street, Fendalton, Fendalton-Strowan, Christchurch City
This grand half-timbered Arts & Crafts house with 40 rooms was built for a Christchurch businessman in 1897. It sits on a 25 acre site which had been part of the Deans families original estate in Riccarton. Surrounding sections have been sold off and the trees have grown so that it is difficult to get a view. It is a significant example of the work of architect Samuel Hurst Seager as well as typifying how wealthier Christchurch residents lived at the beginning of the 20th century.
