Former Christchurch Chief Post Office

Surrounding buildings have tumbled and been demolished following the earthquakes but although damaged, this Venetian Gothic styled former post office remains It was designed by William Clayton,Government Architect with his assistant P.F.M Burrows and dates from 1879. Its Italianate-looking facade, tower and balanced proportions still attract admiration.

In 2018 the building, now privately owned, received an heritage grant to aid in its earthquake strengthening, repair and renovation.
