Sign of the Takahe

Christchurch City Walks

A strange gothic style folly, built between 1918 and 1934 by the visionary Harry Ell. Completed after his death by the Christchurch City Council in 1949, it is now used as a restaurant. To get here you can catch a bus:- the Sign of the Takehe is the terminus for the 67 Dyer's Pass and 10 Cashmere buses.
From the Sign of the Takahe the H.G. Ell Walkway (3.2km one way ) will take you to the Sign of the Kiwi or you can take a short walk to Victoria Park.
Following the earthquakes repair and strengthening work has been undertaken at the Sign of the Takahe at a cost of $2.8 million
