95 Jack Hinton Drive, Addington, Addington-Woolston, Christchurch City
This former Rugby League ground was upgraded to a design by sports venue experts Populous, to become the temporary venue for major rugby fixtures, including All Black games following the earthquake damage to Lancaster Park, which had been bearing the name AMI stadium. Then the sponsored title transferred here and this park became AMI Stadium, managed by Vbase.
The redeveloped stadium has seating for 17,000, including covered seating for 8500. The turf was recycled from the other park.
However this park is not considered future proof and going forward Christchurch City Council and recovery authorities are eyeing up a large city block for a large and expensive purpose built sport and events centre.
