7E Blyth Street, Clyde, Central Otago
This is the picture perfect 1864 replacement for an earlier wooden courthouse, in a town with a name not as solid as it's stone buildings. First the area was called Dunstan, then Hartleys, eventually it came to be known as Clyde. Many historic buildings remain here and this one is on the heritage list. It is in a residential area now after subdivision of the original land block, which used to include offices for all government services, including a stone jail, all long since gone.
The Courthouse is shut for business, and briefly housed a cafe, like the one in Alexandra, and the Museum, before it moved to the more modern former County Council building next door.
A worthy site to see in historic Clyde, the start of the Otago Rail Trail.
