12 Antares Place, Windsor Park, Auckland
From the satellite, it is huge, from the ground, even bigger.
It is no wonder North Shore City turns out superb sports people given the facility they have, AUT Millenium, which takes over as Aotearoa's biggest and best sports park after the demise and downsize of QEII in Christchurch East. An impressive array of community organisations contribute to the charitable trust that runs this facility, which has been on a growth curve since 2002.
The biggest sports clubs here are for athletics, swimming, water polo and weightlifting, but they have a range of other adjunct services and facilities that draw in their 10,000 members. Philanthropist Sir Owen Glen, who built the University of Auckland's Business School, contributed to the Olympic size swimming pool which has an architectural feature in a translucent quilted bubble silver wall.
