The PumpHouseis North Shore City's heritage arts centre for the performing and visual arts. Constructed in 1905 the Pumphouse once supplied Lake Pupuke water to Devonport and then the North Shore. A new supply was sourced from the Waitakeres in 1944. A new water supply was sourced from the Waitakeres in 1944, and so the venue fell into disrepair.
The local community came together in the 1960s to create a theatre space. They rescued the building from demolition and raised the funds to restore and convert the building into a theatre. This same group of locals later coalesced to form the North Shore Theatre & Arts Trust, which still administers The PumpHouse today.
The PumpHouse today operates as a programmed venue for hire for the performing arts and is a listed Category II Historic Building under the protection of The New Zealand Historic Places Trust.
Lake Pupuke is a place for windsurfing and kayaking.
