2 Ayr Street, Newmarket-Parnell, Auckland
Kinder House was built in 1857 as the residence for the headmaster of the Church of England Grammar School, Dr John Kinder, now best known for his watercolours and pioneer photographs of New Zealand topography. Kinder House now serves as a gallery for some of these works. The architect of the Gothic style house was Frederick Thatcher.
A comprehensive coverage of the images John Kinder produced is included in a publication by Ron Brownson.
