The Lighthouse is a 2017 art installation at the end of Queens Wharf by Michael Parekowhai. It is representative of the ubiquitous New Zealand State House and itself houses a lighting installation and a statue of Captain Cook.
Although there is cause to celebrate the Housing programme which served so many New Zealanders well, the installation of the 'The Lighthouse' occurred at a time when Auckland in particular had a housing crisis and the withdrawal of the State from housing provision was being questioned.
