Warren & Mahoney provided an architectural presence at the airport when they designed and decorated this hotel for the Waikato Tainui tribe on the borders of its traditional territory (2011). It sits on wishbone-like reinforced concrete legs. Look for the inscriptions in stone and the carved panels on the exterior making the link with Tainui. NZPlaces can confirm that this hotel has revolutionised the hotel airport transfer experience, by making it disappear, this hotel is as close to the terminal as is possible, no transfers needed. Probably the most convenient airport hotel in the entire world, and a similar one is being built in Wellington.
