New Zealand Guardian Trust Building

Built for the New Zealand Insurance Company this is an early steel framed high-rise by Architect W H Gummer. It was constructed in 1914-18. Its steel-frame makes it one of Auckland's first 'high-rise' office blocks marking an important transition between Victorian commercial structures and modern office buildings. The New Zealand Insurance Company (NZI) had been founded by local businessmen in 1859.
