Waipu Cove

There is a golden sandy beach with, at the southern end, a shaded area with picnic facilities. There is a surf life saving club. On the 3.5km sandspit to the the north the area behind the beach is the Waipu Wildlife Refuge in which New Zealand dotterels and oyster catchers nest. The breeding habitat is fenced off from September to March.
