36 Plimmer Terrace, Shannon, Horowhenua

Shannon

A small country town with a population of 1500 en-route to Palmerston North from Wellington, Shannon has been a railway town and a flax milling centre and is near Mangahao, the first Government built hydro scheme in the North Island. It has a couple of old wooden hotels redolent of a past era and cafés where you can buy a coffee if you are traveling by. The Railway Station is the only surviving station building built by the Wellington and Manawatu Company, a private company which operated between Wellington and Longburn Dave Pirie's second hand shop (Brews N Browse) where you can find books on Military History and the Occult, caters to the passing traffic.
