506 Brown Street, Thames, Thames-Coromandel
There are two big beautiful buildings on this street that go by the name Lady Bowen. The good news is that this one is the oldest and arguably the prettiest, and it is the one currently offering accommodation.
The original Lady Bowen Hotel, since the 1860s, this Kauri guesthouse has large high ceiling-ed bedrooms and a comfortable bar and lounge downstairs. Now it is a quiet BnB, but for it's first century, it was a hotel. The publican transferred the name to the larger 'Lady Bowen' on the corner, a building which is also heritage listed.
NZ Places isn't sure which of the Lady Bowen's was shipped here from Auckland on a barge, or which is the oldest, so, if you know, please drop us a line.
