The monument and interpretative panel mark the site of a camp where refugee Polish children stayed from 1944 to 1949. The sculptor was Tanya Ashken. Most of the young refugees were orphans displaced by the Second World War who had survived the harsh conditions of camps in Siberia. 700 lived in the camp which was dubbed 'Little Poland'.
