Waihi Beach

Popular Waihi Beach,11km from the town, is very safe for swimming and a surf beach. It has white sand and "stretches for miles".

About 2000 people live permanently here. You can see a Maori pa site at the southern end of the beach; at the north end, you can walk along the coast to Orokawa Bay.

The beach has a long -standing surf club.
