Piha Road, Waiatarua, Auckland
Nihotupu Falls have long been an attractive sight in the Waitakeres, only a 30 miute walk from Piha Road. On the way you will see the Lower Nihotapu Dam, one of a network of waterworks structures which help keep the Queen's City supplied with water. The three waterfalls are topped by a fantastic picnic site at the upper reservoir. There are swimming spots amongst the waterfalls and an unofficial side track leads to a spectacular view of the bottom of the largest waterfall.
The Nihotupu Auxiliary Dam (and another picnic area) is reached via the Ian Wells Track off the other side of Piha road.
