10 Bridle Path Road, Heathcote Valley, Heathcote Valley, Christchurch City
When it first opened tolls were charged for use of the Lyttelton Road Tunnel.
Peter Beaven designed this outstanding Administration building and toll plaza for the Tunnel Authority in 1962. He saw it as a 'fifth ship' referring to the first four ships which carried the initial Christchurch settlers. It was recognised at the time as a significant contribution to NZ architecture. Unfortunately the building was an earthquake casualty.
